We pick you up at Santiago airport and drive you to your hotel. In the afternoon, we visit the historic center of Santiago and have dinner in a local restaurant.

3 SANTIAGO – PUNTA ARENAS
Early-morning wake-up for the 3.5-hour flight to Punta Arenas. After checking in at our hotel in Punta Arenas, we take you on a 3- to 4-hour walk through an ancient Nothofagus forest to the Cerro Mirador (about 200m ascent), from where we have a great view over the Strait of Magellan.

4 PUNTA ARENAS – SENO OTTWAY – PUERTO NATALES
In the morning we drive to the Seno Ottway Penguin Colony. There, you will be expected by approximately 60 million Magellanic Penguins who live here in total freedom. After a two-hour walk through the colony, we drive to Puerto Natales (approx. 4 hours), stopping at a number of viewpoints along the way to enjoy the beautiful landscapes. In the late afternoon, we visit the cozy town of Puerto Natales and do a short walk along the Gulf Admiral Montt.

5 PUERTO NATALES – MILODON CAVE – ESTANCIA PERALES
This morning, we visit the famous Milodon Cave, a National Monument consisting of three caves that lie up to 200 meters underneath the ground. Here, in 1875, the German sailor Eberhard found the well-preserved remainders of a Milodon, a giant sloth that lived in this area around 10.000 years ago. After visiting the caves, we have the chance to have a look at the remainders of this prehistoric herbivore in the nearby museum. In the afternoon, we drive in direction of the ranch where we will be staying for the next two nights. The last few kilometers, we walk along the sea, surrounded by Nothofagus forests.

6 LAST HOPE SOUND NAVIGATION AND VISIT OF BERNARDO O’HIGGINS NATIONAL PARK
At around 10 AM, we are picked up by a boat which takes us on a navigation through the Last Hope Sound to the foot of Mount Balmaceda. From there we have a spectacular view of the glacier of the same name. We get off the boat and do an easy 1-km walk to the foot of the Serrano Glacier. On the navigation back to the ranch, we get to see colonies of Cormorants and Sea Basses with a bit of luck. The magnificent landscapes we come across during this day consist of rugged coast lines, large plains, waterfalls and impressive snow-covered mountain ranges.

7 ESTANCIA PERALES – TORRES DEL PAINE – GREY GLACIER
Two-hour drive through stunning scenery to the entrance of the Torres del Paine National Park. In the park, we do a three-hour return hike along the shores of Lake Grey on which large pieces of ice constantly float around. We spend the night on a camp ground with beautiful views of the Paine massif.

8 CAMPING PEHUE – LAS TORRES CAMPGROUND
Today we cross Torres del Paine National Park by car. We do various short hikes along the way to explore the local flora and fauna and to enjoy the beauty of the area. We visit, amongst others, Lake Sarmiento, the waterfall Salto Grande and the Lake Nordenskjold lookout.

9 HIKE TO LAKE NORDENSKJOLD
Easy day hike (around 6 hours return) to the shores of Lake Nordenskjold with spectacular views of the Paine peaks, Mount Admiral Nieto and the surrounding glaciers.

10 TORRES DEL PAINE: LAGUNA AZUL
Two-hour drive to Laguna Azul. On the way, we are likely to observe guanacos and a wide variety of birds. On the shores of Laguna Azul, a group of local gauchos will be waiting for us with a delicious Patagonian barbeque. In the afternoon, we do an easy three-hour hike. Return to our camp.

11 TORRES DEL PAINE – EL CALAFATE
Today, we spend a large part of the day in the car as we cross the Chilean-Argentinean border to eventually reach El Calafate. The drive takes around 5 hours with various stops along the way. In the afternoon, you have time to wander through the streets of this small town on the shores of Lago Argentino and to do some souvenir shopping.

12 EL CALAFATE – LAKE ROCA
Short drive to Lake Roca, where we set up camp in the middle of this National Reserve. Short walk through the park in the afternoon.

13 LAKE ROCA – PERITO MORENO GLACIER – LAKE ROCA
The sectors Perito Moreno and El Chaltén are both part of the extensive and impressive Los Glaciares National Park. In the morning, we drive to the Perito Moreno Glacier, where you will witness the fascinating scene of huge blocks of ice breaking off the glacier and smashing into the water. In the afternoon, we return to our camp on the shores of Lake Roca.

14 LAKE ROCA – EL CHALTEN
After having taken down our camp, we return to Calafate, from where we start driving north. We cross the rivers Santa Cruz and La Leona and finally catch sight of the famous mountain chain of Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. Once we reach El Chaltén in the afternoon, you have time to explore this mountaineering village or to get some rest.

15 HIKE TO CAPRI LAGOON
Today, we do an easy day hike (around 5 hours return) through beautiful scenery to the Capri Lagoon, from where you have spectacular views of the Fitz Roy massif.

16 HIKE TO CERRO TORRE
Easy day hike to the Cerro Torre lookout (around 5 hours return), from where you will be able to experience one of Patagonia’s most famous and most stunning panoramic views. Here, we decide whether we want to continue walking to the Torre Lagoon (around 9 hours return).

17 EL CHALTÉN – LAGUNA DEL DESIERTO – EL CHALTÉN
Four-hour walk through forests along the shores of Laguna del Desierto. Along the entire passage we have a great view of the Fitz Roy and the surrounding peaks. Drive back to El Chaltén.

18 EL CHALTÉN – EL CALAFATE
Drive back to El Calafate. Afternoon free to rest or to visit the town.
