1 ARRIVAL IN SANTIAGO
We meet you at Santiago Airport and bring you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you can explore Santiago’s various sights on a guided tour through the center of Chile’s capital. In the evening, we have dinner together in a local restaurant.

2 SANTIAGO – CALAMA – SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA
Early morning flight to Calama, from where we start our journey across the Atacama desert. Today, we pass the Domeyko mountains and the Cordillera de la Sal, ending in the village of San Pedro de Atacama. After lunch we visit the archeological museum of San Pedro de Atacama, followed by an excursion to the Valle de la Luna, where we enjoy the spectacular sunset over the salt range.

3 SAN PEDRO – TOCONAO – CHAXA LAGOON – MISCANTI – SAN PEDRO
Today we enjoy a full day of traveling across the desert and the Altiplano. We drive south along the salt flat to the Aymará village of Toconao with its local cacti and stone handcrafts. After this we enter the Atacama salt flat and stop at the Chaxa Lagoon, one of the world’s best places to see flamingos nesting. From there we start driving up towards the Altiplano, where we experience a complete change of landscape. Our target destination is the protected Miscanti area, a region marked by mountain lagoons, volcanoes and a very rich local flora and fauna. In the evening we drive back to San Pedro.

4 SAN PEDRO – TATIO GEYSERS – PURITAMA – SAN PEDRO
We get up very early (at around 4am) for a two-hour drive to the geysers of El Tatio. We arrive in time to enjoy the view of the steaming fumaroles and the thermal activity against the extraordinary sunrise of the Atacama Desert. Your early morning wake-up will be rewarded with a perfect crystalline clear sky and a landscape of unforgettable beautiful colors and contrasts. We enjoy a good breakfast before returning to San Pedro. On the way back we stop at Puritama thermal springs, one of the best thermal springs in the world. After a long bath we have lunch before driving back to San Pedro.

5 SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA – JAMA – PURMAMARCA
We leave San Pedro early in the morning and climb over a 4,000m pass towards the border crossing of Paso Jama. Although we are still in the Altiplano, the landscapes are completely different from what we have seen so far: salt lakes, turquoise mountain lagoons, desertic plains and mountains painted in spectacular mineral colors. We have lunch in the village of Susques. In the afternoon, we reach a more humid area as the route follows a narrow valley to the small village of Purmamarca, known for its fabulous indigenous handcraft market and the nearby seven-color mountain.

6 PURMAMARCA – TILCARA – SALTA
After a morning visit of the small town market square, we start a 26km drive to the well preserved Pukara (fortress) of Tilcara. There we have the opportunity to explore the fortress, the ancient village and the 7 local museums. Our return trip follows the old National Route 9 to Jujuy and Salta, two old colonial towns. During the 19th century, these two isolated cities were the most important commercial centers in all of South America, being bigger and richer than Buenos Aires which, at the time, was only a small port.

7 SALTA – CACHI
We start the day with an early morning excursion to a hill that offers nice views over the city. From there, we drive south through tobacco fields to the route of the Obispito. This switchback mountain road offers amazing views over the surrounding landscapes and takes us across several rivers as well as a cactus national park. The Obispo pass is the gate to the upper valley, home of the Calchaqui culture. Our final destination is the village of Cachi, a small traditional village located in the middle of a beautiful valley surrounded by spectacular mountains.

8 CACHI – CAFAYATE
Today, our route is short in distance but rich in attractions. We enter the heart of the Calchaqui valley and discover local agriculture and farms. We make a short detour to visit the Colchas river valley and the Garganta del Diablo. You will be surprised by the colors, the forms, the sounds and the contrasts in this area. Finally we arrive in Cafayate, a region where some of the best Argentinean white wines are produced.

9 CAFAYATE – QUILMES – TAFI
We keep traversing the Calchaqui valley and visit Pukara and the ruins of Quilmes. Quilmes is the name of a native group which is part of the Diaguitas culture, known for their incredible resistance against the Spanish over more than 100 years. We cross a mountain pass to Tafi, a village which might remember you of the Swiss Alps. This area is home to the Tafi culture, known for their menhir building skills.

10 TAFI – CATAMARCA – ANILLACO – LA RIOJA
Today is a long day filled with history. We drive south to the warmer and lower lands of the Yungas forest. On the way we cross an always changing land and visit Catamarca and its surroundings. Later during the day, we pass Anillaco and the beautiful Los Sauces lake to finally arrive in the town of La Rioja. After a rest at the hotel, we visit this traditional town.

11 LA RIOJA – SAN JUAN
Today we visit the Talampaya National Park, considered one of the most beautiful Argentinean Parks even if it is almost unknown outside of the country. We take a short walk around the Ischigualasto Provincial Park to see the art left behind by native populations and the cliffs full of birds. After lunch we head south to San Juan, also known as the “Town of the Monuments”. We check in at our hotel and visit this traditional town surrounded by vineyards and mines.

12 SAN JUAN – MENDOZA
A straight road links San Juan and Mendoza, two very important commercial towns. We arrive early in Mendoza so that we can enjoy all that this city has to offer. Walking through the town and its amazing San Martin Park, we start to understand why it is one of the richest cities in the Argentina.

13 MENDOZA – USPALLATA – SANTIAGO
Today we return to Chile. The road takes us once again across the Andes and we stop for lunch at the traditional mountain village of Uspallata. Near the border crossing we can see the spectacular and impressive south face of Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America with an altitude of 6,959m. On the Chilean side of the boarder we pass the Portillo ski resort, from where we lose altitude very quickly as we leave the mountains behind and enter a semi-arid region famous for its plantations and fruit orchards.

14 DEPARTURE FROM SANTIAGO
You will be transferred to the airport today for your flight home.
